Honeymoon Surprise!

Check out Anders’ honeymoon surprise 2bd/2ba villa w/ plunge pool for me! Also at www.balimasarivillas.com
See narrated tour... again when we find broadband it's 63megs. Here are some pics for the meantime:

Luxury Beach-Front Breakfast Service

We have finally arrived in beautiful Bali! We couldn’t decide whether to go to the beach or finally eat unquestionable food, so we compromised and did both. At a kind New Zealander’s suggestion, we found an amazing little restaurant right on the beach called La Lucciola which had the best tasting breakfast- maybe it just seemed gourmet compared to the shriveled hot dogs. After 46 hours of airports and planes we were ready to sit down to finally enjoy the view and 3 waiters per table! It was so relaxing to walk right out onto the beach, take in fresh sea air, bask in the intense sun then cool off with a dip in 78 degree clear ocean water! I’m beginning to like this place.

Traveler's Purgatory

Thinking all our travel woes were complete, we finally arrived at the Bali airport!!! We were escorted, Anders in a broken wheelchair with seat missing and Lori in tow, into the main customs room, where many passengers were anxiously milling around with a look of bewilderment. We then observed all the passengers turning and running with excitement to a particular customs agent, then sorrowfully being turned away back to their former state of wait. After our attempt to clear customs, we soon learned what the mad dash was all about. We termed this ‘Travelers Purgatory’ and had to join the crowd… we couldn’t get back on the plane which had already left and couldn’t enter the country because they ran out of the correct forms. =(

They didn’t seem to know what to do with this large group of people. Judging by the expressions of the customs agent's faces, it seemed as if we were the first flight to have ever arrived at the airport. Luckily, the printing office was open, and we made it though after a very long trip. Sigh.

We had a funny interview clip to insert, but was accidentally deleted, so you'll just have to live with the picture, instead.

Singapore Airport

Lori can fall asleep to anything! During our six layover in Singapore, we slept to the music of jack-hammering at the airport.
Funny video clip coming as soon as we can find broadband... currently sending at 21.6Kbps :(

Oh, Lori goes into the restroom at the airport and look what she finds… a squatting pan? Strange.

We were very pleased to be able to experience the exquisite cuisine during our Lionair Flight to Bali. They sure know how to prepare their passengers for a life of pampering.

First Impressions of North Korea

Beginning the day with spicy octopus for breakfast wasn’t exactly what we had in mind to wake up to this morning. Fortunately, there was a “Western breakfast” option. Feeling badly that we haven’t been sampling the Korean “cuisine”, we tried Ox Stomach Stew for Lunch. If that wasn’t strange enough, I fed Lori what appeared to be fish eyeballs and green beans on the side. I did agree to try it.

Our plan is to arrive in Bali in 26 hours, but we know how plans go. Maybe we’ll just say, “we have an airline ticket to Bali Sat morning, you’ll just have to check back to see if we actually made it…”

Just two minutes ago, some young South Korean teen put on a pair of out-of-place bright ruby red slippers, stands on her toes and admires her feet and without a beat, Lori announces, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…”. Guess we’re not in Kansas anymore.

She isn’t a good wheelchair driver either. Thirty minutes and a dry t-shirt ago, Lori, I guess, wanted to wash down the fish eyeballs with Dunkin' Donuts coffee, so she gives me two open cups of coffee (as seen above) and sends me bumping down the people mover in my wheelchair spilling the contents on my shirt, pants, backpack and everything else on my lap. See below the Seoul bathroom “Laundromat”...

Day 3 of Adventure (actual departure day)

Dr. has ordered Lori to be the pack mule for 6 weeks- Anders laughs, but she is serious- he is forbidden from carrying over 15lbs.

Anders barely survived the ride to LAX as he suddenly began reminiscing of Bob Marley songs upon the terrible freeways coupled with the bus’s not so much air ride began playing bongos on his hernia repair! Lori barely survived LAX security screening, as upon walking through the detector and being firmly told to stay away from me who hadn’t yet been searched, the entire TSA staff began screaming freeze and who knows what else at the top of their lungs and running around frantically. I’d describe it as complete chaos and also entertaining observing my new wife’s eyes wide open and dilated, ready to kick some terrorists. Our wheelchair driver informed us they randomly practice bomb drills and fortunate for us, it only lasted 5min rather than the 60min norm. Lucky for us, we always seem to be in the right place at the right time lately to catch the highlights.

Day 1 of Honeymoon with in-laws =)

9 days after our beautiful wedding at the nut farm we are about to embark on our 3 month honeymoon into the “Ring of Fire” of Southeast Asia! Wait, just kidding, Anders is hobbling around on a cane Hank found on the side of the road. Good friend Roger offers a walker and raised toilet chair, but being too humorous to use, they sit without a friend, but make the nut ranch look like an old folks home. We have to re-schedule our flight, Anders is in no condition (and smelly because he’s forbidden from showering for 3 days) to fly.

Pain in my side (not Lori)

When: 58 Hours to Departure of flight
Where: Lompoc Emergency Room
Why: Learning that Anders needs emergency hernia surgery
What: Doctor laughing at us that we thought we could get into surgery today after just determining the source of lump.

But, through the Lord’s providence he did get in… the next morning!

Invitation to Lori & Anders Travels

We invite you to come along in our journey and hear all about the next crazy adventures to come. We will do our best to keep you entertained, or rather that seems to be the duty of everyone else around us… Or as Lori says, “Don’t split your Steri-Strips” laughing at our comedy routine along the way. (Steri-strips are what the doc used to bandage my incision)
