First Impressions of North Korea

Beginning the day with spicy octopus for breakfast wasn’t exactly what we had in mind to wake up to this morning. Fortunately, there was a “Western breakfast” option. Feeling badly that we haven’t been sampling the Korean “cuisine”, we tried Ox Stomach Stew for Lunch. If that wasn’t strange enough, I fed Lori what appeared to be fish eyeballs and green beans on the side. I did agree to try it.

Our plan is to arrive in Bali in 26 hours, but we know how plans go. Maybe we’ll just say, “we have an airline ticket to Bali Sat morning, you’ll just have to check back to see if we actually made it…”

Just two minutes ago, some young South Korean teen put on a pair of out-of-place bright ruby red slippers, stands on her toes and admires her feet and without a beat, Lori announces, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…”. Guess we’re not in Kansas anymore.

She isn’t a good wheelchair driver either. Thirty minutes and a dry t-shirt ago, Lori, I guess, wanted to wash down the fish eyeballs with Dunkin' Donuts coffee, so she gives me two open cups of coffee (as seen above) and sends me bumping down the people mover in my wheelchair spilling the contents on my shirt, pants, backpack and everything else on my lap. See below the Seoul bathroom “Laundromat”...

  3. Call me Eurocentric, or Americentric if you must, but those fish heads look nasty :( That is something you do on a dare or something. Yuck! How much money did Lori win? Prizes? No? Bummer!
